Explain the concept of dynamic equilibrium in relation to the carbon cycle at the scale of the lithosphere? (4 marks)
Dynamic equilibrium is when the inputs and outputs in system or equal. An increase in acid rain will lead to an increase in the erosion of carbon rich rock like limestone leading to an increase in the store of carbon in the oceans. Therefore, an increase in acidity of the oceans will lead to an increase in the rate of the formation of
crustaceans, marine animals with carbon shells. When the crustaceans die, they fall to the seabed an under high amounts of pressure will become sedimentary rocks, with a high quantity of carbon which becomes part of the lithosphere.
